FAQ
What does “processed” mean here?
We use the NOVA classification from Open Food Facts. NOVA 1 is unprocessed or minimally processed food, 2 is processed culinary ingredients, 3 is processed food and 4 is ultra-processed food. Within each group we rank products with fewer additives higher.
Where does the data come from?
Product data comes from Open Food Facts and prices from Open Prices. Both are open, crowd-sourced databases. Coverage varies by store, and some products are missing or out of date. You can add or fix products in the Open Food Facts app.
Can I rely on the Avoid filters for allergies?
No. They're based on ingredient lists that can be incomplete or wrong, and recipes change. Always read the actual label. SimpleShelf is not medical or allergy advice.
Are the prices current?
They're estimates: the median of recent receipts and price tags that shoppers submitted to Open Prices, with the date of the latest one. Your store's shelf price may be different.
Do you track me?
No accounts, no cookies, no ads. Your lists and settings stay on your device. We may use cookieless Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. See the privacy policy.
Does it cost anything?
No. SimpleShelf is free.
My store isn't listed.
Type any store name in the store box. SimpleShelf will search Open Food Facts live for products tagged with that store.
